Ming Vases

Second grade learned the history of Ming Vases and we discussed common subject matter that can be seen on these vessels during this time period.  Students drew birds, dragons, flowers, vines, and more!
Then, they had to use their imagination and come up with something coming out of their vase.  As always, I am super impressed with their designs!!!  Keep it up, artists!

Chinese Dragons

First grade created these awesome Chinese dragons and learned about shape and symmetry.

Piet Mondrian Shape Collage

Kindergarten studied the shapes and colors that the artist, Piet Mondian, used in his art.  Students cut shapes from paper (squares and rectangles) and used different tools to create line.  I love how different all of the projects turned out!

Kindergarten Heart Prints

Artists use a variety of tools to create works of art.  Kindergarten used paper towel rolls (wrapped with rubber bands) to create a heart stamp/print.  The students switched tables and used different colors to create their very own unique work.

Battle of the Books

I have been requested to be the team sponsor of a fabulous group of fifth grade girls for The Battle of the Books!  I am so excited and cannot wait to get reading! #spyreaders

Romero Britto (4th Grade)

Britto would be proud!

What is Craftsmanship?

Third grade listed the qualities that demonstrated good craftsmanship.  We looked at various pieces of art and discussed the quality of each.

How Does Setting Influence the Viewer's Response?

Fourth grade took a walk around the school last month and looked at several pieces of art.  We discussed how the setting could influence how we feel about a piece of art work.
Students all had post-its and wrote how they felt about each piece of art work (it was very fun to read!!!)!

Second Grade: Worry Dolls

What is a worry doll?  In Guatemala (and some Native American cultures), children weaved worry dolls and put them into tiny pouches (that they would sometimes hide under their pillows).  Children would tell their doll their worries and fears and find comfort in sharing.
Second grade made weaved pouches for their dolls and wrote down one worry that they currently had.  I loved how these turned out and even hung some of them in the district's board room!  Well done, artists!

A Little Late.....Book Fair Fun!

We had a blast getting ready for the book fair at Aiken Elementary!  Check out those skulls that 5th grade made!

Winter is Here!!!
